1.Skanderbeg Square
The square is the focal point of Tirana’s monuments. Within the square you’ll be able to visit the National Historic Museum (ticket price information), the Clock Tower and Et’hem Bey mosque.One thing is for sure, Albania and its capital have a very complicated past. A visit to the National Museum, is a must if you want to know more about the country’s survival. Please keep in mind that the Museum is closed on Mondays.

2.BunkArt
This extraordinary attraction puts Albania’s recent past into perspective. The museum tells the history of the Albanian Ministry of Internal Affairs from 1912 to 1991 and reveals the secrets of “Sigurimi”, the political police that was the harsh persecution weapon used by the regime of Enver Hoxha. BUNK’ART 2 is the first major video museum exhibition dedicated to the victims of communist terror.

3.Pyramid and Bell of Peace
Not far from the other attractions, in a 10 minute walk you’ll find yourself right in front of the Pyramid. Built in 1988, its purpose was to serve as a museum for Enver Hoxha, the dictator of the period. Its rare architecture makes it one of a kind building.Right next to the Pyramid you’ll find “The Bell of Peace”, a Bell made of the cartridges during the Civil War of 1997, when most of the infamous bands flourished.

4. CheckPoint
Postbllok (Checkpoint), which is also a bunker and at the same time a memorial to Albanian communist isolation, conceived as an artistic installation.Next to it are the remaining supports of a mining gallery in the notorious labour camp Spaç and a piece from the Berlin Wall, taken from Potsdamer Platz.

5. Blloku – Tirana’s most famous area
The neighbor known as Blloku is the most famous and expensive area in Tirana. In the communist past it used to be the residence where only the communist elites lived. You can still find the residence of the Albania’s communist leader Enver Hoxha. However, Bllok is now a lively area offering a considerable number of coffee shops, restaurants and shops, and is considered the Soho of Tirana. If you have free time, you might want to consider visiting Bllok in the evening, as its peak activity of bars and restaurants is around that time.
